Associate of Arts in Early Childhood Education

ABOUT THE PROGRAM

The Associate of Arts in Early Child Education places an emphasis and focuses on providing students with the knowledge, skills, and training required to work with young children. The Nova Southeastern University (NSU) Fischler School of Education incorporates the standards from the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC) into its program to prepare students for successful careers in early childhood education.

WHO SHOULD APPLY

Individuals with high school degrees or General Education Diplomas (GED) who wish to enter the field of early childhood education

Practicing early childhood educators who wish to obtain an associate’s degree and/or increase their level of expertise in the field can work towards their early childhood education degree either online or at one of our selected student centers in Florida

Practicing paraprofessionals who wish to obtain an associate’s degree in early childhood education and increase their level of expertise in the field

FOR INCOMING FRESHMEN
  • Completed admission application packet, including $50 nonrefundable application fee made payable to Nova Southeastern University
  • Official high school transcripts with courses, grades, and graduation date (if available) or GED equivalent
FOR INTERNATIONAL STUDENTS
  • Completed admission application packet, including $50 nonrefundable application fee made payable to Nova Southeastern University
  • Course-by-course transcript evaluation with GPA calculation and official English translation, if necessary, Josef Silny & Associates, World Education Services, or other National Association of Credential Evaluation Services (NACES) member
  • Official test scores showing a minimum score of 213 on the computer-based or 550 on the paper-based Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) exam, 480 on the verbal section of the SAT, or 6.0 on the International English Language Testing System (IELTS) exam
  • Student (F-1) visa or exchange visitor (J-1) visa
  • Original bank statement or official letter from a financial institution indicating ability to meet all costs of education without financial aid from Nova Southeastern University
      FOR NON-NATIVE ENGLISH SPEAKERS

      Applicants whose native language is not English are required to demonstrate English proficiency by providing proof of a minimum score of 213 on the computer-based or 550 on the paper-based Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) exam or 6.0 on the International English Language Testing System (IELTS) exam.

      FOR INTERNATIONAL APPLICANTS

      Students taking classes in certain FSEHS international clusters may be exempt from submitting MAT, GRE, and TOEFL scores. Please contact a FSEHS enrollment representative regarding requirements for your international cluster.

CONVENIENT DELIVERY OPTIONS

Coursework for an associate’s degree in early childhood education is available both online. The online program allows traditional and international students to receive and submit coursework, as well as interact with participants and professors via the Internet. Those distance education delivery options enable working professionals to complete their associate’s degree without having to leave their jobs or travel long distances.

 
COMPLETION REQUIREMENTS
  • Satisfactory completion of all required courses in the program
  • Cumulative grade point average of 2.0 or higher
  • Completed application for degree conferral

Faculty members of the Associate of Arts in Early Childhood Education program are scholars and educators from the Nova Southeastern University Fischler School of Education and other major universities and institutions throughout the country. In addition, many are also highly respected professional practitioners, who are carefully selected on the basis of their subject expertise, teaching abilities, and professional involvement. Most importantly, they are united in their desire to not only educate, but to inspire students to use what they learn to motivate others.
