Doctor of Education with a Concentration in Speech-Language Pathology

ABOUT THE CONCENTRATION

The Doctor of Education with a concentration in Speech-Language Pathology is designed specifically for practicing speech-language pathologists in a variety of settings with a particular interest in the areas of administration and supervision. This concentration fosters the development of leadership skills in program evaluation, supervision, administration, and technology. Through self-reflection, analysis, and practical application of best practices, these skills are then used to solve real problems in the workplace. The doctoral program focuses on developing scientifically trained and clinically experienced pathologists as leaders and change agents by providing broad knowledge of social, political, and economic forces at work in society.

WHO SHOULD APPLY
  • Practicing speech-language pathologists in schools, hospitals, universities, skilled nursing facilities, private practice, nursing homes, or rehabilitation centers
    OR
  • Individuals with a master’s degree in speech-language pathology and ASHA certification who wish to obtain a doctoral degree and increase their knowledge and skills
    OR
  • Individuals considering a Ph.D. in speech pathology who would instead like to explore the benefits of a doctor of education (Ed.D.) program

    CONVENIENT DELIVERY OPTIONS

Coursework for the Ed.D. with a conflict resolution minor is offered in a variety of formats – completely online, at NSU’s Main Campus in South Florida, or through a combination of on-site and online (blended) classes. The distance education program at NSU’s School of Education allows busy professionals the option to complete their doctoral degrees in conflict resolution without leaving their jobs or traveling great distances. Students may elect to take their core seminars at the sites or completely online. Concentration and elective courses will be delivered completely online.

    • Online courses allow international students and those who don’t live near our South Florida campuses to interact in a virtual classroom.
    • Blended programs combine on-site and online instruction. On-site courses are offered periodically over weekends and supplemented with online study.
    • Individuals who want to earn an Ed.D. in conflict resolution and those who are looking for an online doctorate in education can benefit from this program.

    Doctoral Studies Orientation

The Doctoral Studies Orientation is an online course that provides students with an overview of six distinct areas related to doctoral studies: program overview, student services, applied research, technology, distance library services, and debt management. Completion of this non-credit course is a mandatory requirement for all students entering a doctoral program at the Fischler School. Students should complete DSO 8000 prior to beginning their first doctoral course.

Conference on Global Leadership, Learning, and Research

The Conference on Global Leadership, Learning, and Research is a three-day summer conference designed for first-year doctoral students. Students will be able to schedule individual sessions with their applied dissertation committee chairs to discuss dissertation work and with representatives from various service areas, including distance library services, student financial assistance, and program advising. The conference will offer applied dissertation workshops enabling students to learn valuable information about the dissertation process, as well as roundtable sessions affording students the opportunity to present their dissertation work to a group of peers and receive immediate feedback. A general conference strand will be adhered to with featured speakers related to the themes of leadership, learning, and research.
